Skipper - Henriette Koch – DEN

Team: Henriette Koch – skipper, Trine Bentzen – main/tactics, Lærke Ilsøe Nørgaard – trimmer, Josefine Boel Rasmussen – trimmer, Tine Kjærgaard – trimmer, Lærke Marie Sørensen – bow

Henriette Koch, 33, is the skipper of the Danish team “Women On Water” and Lysekil Women’s Match was her first match race event helming. However, steering a boat at an international sailing event is far from new to Henriette, who is a former Olympic 470 skipper with multiple World Cup podium results and a European Championship silver medal on the record. And a second place finish in Lysekil showed the team’s prowess.

After the 2012 Olympics, Henriette decided to focus on her business career, moved abroad for some time and therefore stopped the Olympic sailing. Last Spring Lotte Meldgaard asked Henriette to join for a J/70 training session and that became the start of Henriette’s sailing as a non-professional keel boat sailor. Lately Henriette and her team from Royal Danish Yacht Club won the Women’s Sailing Champions League in Kiel.

Intense racing, competing with and against top international sailors and improving own skills is what drives Henriette in sailing – match race is therefore an exciting challenge for the former Olympic 470 skipper. As Henriette puts it: “The past 18 months has been a lot of fun as I’ve learned what match racing and Sailing Champions League sailing is about. Thanks to my very experienced crew and their patience, we have had a steep learning curve where we complement each other and I get to use my core strengths from Olympic sailing.”

On shore Henriette works as a manager in the Danish farmaceutical company Novo Nordisk but she is also active within sailing as a board member in Royal Danish Yacht Club and co-founder of the Women On Water (WOW) network together with tactician Josefine.
