Amsterdam resident Merel Witteveen, sailing for Royal Maas Yacht Club in Rotterdam, made her international debut 1999 in the Optimist European Championships. Since then she has participated in a great number of events in different sailing classes. After a silver medal in Yngling in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she 2010 switched to match racing, with the Elliot 6M as her favourite boat. Merel holds a Masters degree in Physics and is working as a Consultant at McKinsey. When not sailing she likes to go snowboarding.
